Howdy Folks! It's my first blog as a National FFA Officer. What a crazy last few weeks it has certainly been! The national FFA convention was an awesome experience! For those of you who attended, you know that it was pumped up with energy, enthusiasm, and nearly 54,000 Blue Jackets.
I and 39 other national officer candidates arrived a few days before convention began to go through the interview process. I must admit, I really enjoyed the interview process, but most of all, I really enjoyed the other candidates. Think about it. Forty individuals who are passionate about agriculture, FFA and life in general, how could it not be AWESOME getting to know them?
To be honest, I really don't remember a lot of what happened after the interview process ended on Thursday morning. I know that I attended sessions, visited the Kansas State University booth at the Career Show (go Wildcats), did a little bit of shopping at the FFA Mall, and spent time with my family (yes...all five of my siblings, one brother-in-law, and my parents were there.)
One thing I do remember, however. Sitting through the ninth general session seemed like an eternity. But suddenly, Miss Kelly Over, Nominating Committee Chair from Pennsylvania was standing on stage. The lights dimmed and that trademark music from the Chicago Bulls started playing. I heard them call Kari from Oregon, Brady from Florida, Tyler from Indiana, then Kelly said, "Your Central Region Vice President...from Colorado..." I don't ever remember her actually saying my name. Immediately a rush of emotions swept through my body. Excited, joyful, ecstatic, nervous, and overwhelmed, I ran to Jamie Cecil (a great friend of mine) and up onto stage where I almost literally plowed Kari, Brady and Tyler over.
Next thing I know they announced Becky and Zach. And there we stood on stage, for what seemed like an eternity all within one second. I gazed out into the roaring audience and took a moment to breathe it all in. It struck me while I was standing there that all these people were cheering for us. I felt so unworthy of such great attention. It wasn't until the next day when Coty Back told our team, "National Office is a BIG DEAL...but you are not." So true Coty! And I aim to take that message to heart this year.
I want you to know that this year is not about me! Sure National FFA Officers get to do some pretty stinking cool things...but that's not what our team is about. That is not what FFA is about. What a blessing and honor it will be to serve the 500,823 members of this incredible organization.
Already the experience has been such a blessing! The other day I met two FFA members from the Fredonia FFA Chapter in Kansas. Bradley McVey and Andrew Strasburg, you guys rock! It was cool to hang out with you!
I'm looking forward to meeting FFA members from all across the nation. In the mean time, add me to Facebook! As with most everyone else, I'm pretty much addicted!
Until Next Time,
Morgan <><
P.S. The picture I attached is my favorite one of convention. Standing there on stage with my teammates, I couldn't help but take in the moment. FFA members, you make our organization great! That's what this year is all about!
